As part of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) community assistance week, the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) held a ground breaking ceremony at the site of a clinic which the force has pledged to construct for the Negove community in Mberengwa.
The ground breaking ceremony brought smiles for the people of Negowe who were using a three roomed house as their clinic.
AFZ Commander, Air Marshal Elson Moyo said he was touched by the plight of pregnant mothers who were enduring the 17km distance to Musume clinic in search of medical attention.
“I have presided over a number of charities in various communities, and this case is more touching as it is using a house donated by a local priest as a clinic,” he said.
Air Marshal Moyo however urged the Negove community to be prudent in accounting for the resources mobilised for the project.
Project sponsors, Liquid Telecoms Deputy Managing Director, Mr Martin Mashambanope pledged his company’s commitment in developing communities.
“We as a company can only network with the community through ploughing back,” he said.
Representing the newly elected Mberengwa East legislator, Retired Lieutenant Colonel Colsen Gwezhira said the ground breaking ceremony is a plus for the community as it comes after Chief Negowe had established a development committee.
The project will see the construction of a state of the art clinic with facilities such as a consultation room, treatment room, pharmacy and post natal rooms.
The project is expected to be completed within six months.
