Apostolic sects embrace gender equality

Members of the Apostolic church say they have made great strides in ensuring the rights of women and children are upheld.

A number of Apostolic church sects have in the past hogged the limelight for denying their children the right to education and health and engaging in child marriages.

However, Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) President, Archbishop Johannes Ndanga said efforts are being made to sensitise their membership on the need to be gender sensitive as well as to uphold the rights of women and children.

In light of the work the ACCZ is doing in bridging the gender gap, the organisation has been invited to the 61st session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 61) meeting, being held in New York (USA).

The review for theme CSW61 is: ‘Challenges and Achievements in the Implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for Women and Girls.’
