President Emmerson Mnangagwa is in Bindura where he is officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony of the National Sports Academy which is being housed by the Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE).
The National Sports Academy which started operations in 2006, is being developed as a high performance centre.
It aims at identifying, nurturing and developing sporting talent for major sporting events like the Olympics, regional and international sporting events and domestic events.
The academy cuts across all sporting disciplines, including athletics, soccer, boxing, chess and others.
The academy has scored major successes having managed to send teams to take part in the Junior Olympics in Colombia, Kenya, China and the US.
This year teams from the academy will participate in international competitions in Finland and Argentina.
The academy recruits from all parts of the country, especially from remote and disadvantaged backgrounds.
