Faith-Cum-Traditional Healer in School Girl Bush Rape

Binga: POLICE have arrested a self-proclaimed faith healer who doubles as an n’anga/inyanga who had been on the run for more than a year after raping a teenage girl and attempting to rape another.

Thirty-year-old Masimpe Muleya was sold out by his tools of the trade which included a knobkerrie, knife and snuff box which he left behind when he fled after being caught trying to rape a girl in Binga February this year.

The items which included a bicycle were kept by the police as exhibits leading to his positive identification by the victims and police in Binga recently.

The first rape incident took place in February last year in Lusulu while the attempted rape occurred this year in Binga.

Muleya pleaded not guilty to rape and attempted rape when he appeared before Hwange regional magistrate Collet Ncube this past week.

He claimed that he had consensual sex with the first victim, an 18-year old from Chiliba area in Lusulu.

He said the attempted rape was fabricated.

The magistrate remanded Muleya out of custody to November 7 on $50 bail following a successful application by his lawyer Modern Chimwanda of Nyawo and Ruzibe Legal Practitioners.

Particulars of the case are that Muleya raped the 18-year old girl on February 17 last year.

“On February 17, the accused was attending to clients in Chiliba when on one of the days, he borrowed a bicycle as he wanted to go somewhere,” said prosecutor Tinomupei Mbiza.

“While riding the bicycle, he met a girl who was walking home from school.

“Muleya went to the girl and when he caught up with her, he grabbed her by the hand and attempted to kiss her. When the girl rebuked him, he drew a knobkerrie, okapi knife and snuff box from a satchel and threatened the victim with unspecified action if she refused to sleep with her.”

Court further heard that Muleya forced the girl to undress before tripping her to the ground upon which he raped her once without using protection.

After the alleged rape, the girl went home and narrated her ordeal to her grandmother who accompanied her to Lusulu Police Station to file a rape report.

On February 18 this year, Muleya attempted to rape another girl he met along the road in Binga.

Court heard that the girl overpowered him and fled.

The victim made a report to the police and her description of her attacker matched that given by the first victim.

Muleya was later arrested in Binga for a different crime and that is when investigations linked him to the rape charges.
