Triangle won 4-1 on penalties

Triangle gaffer Taurai Mangwiro breathed a sigh of relief after his side clinched a Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final ticket with a penalty shootout win over Shabanie at Gibbo Stadium yesterday.

Veteran goalkeeper Ronald Mudimu was his side’s hero after saving two penalties from Peter Muzondo and Raymond Sibanda as Papius Nijel converted for the visitors.

Triangle captain Ralph Kawondera, Russel Madamombe, Collins Dhuwa, Lameck Nhamo converted for the home side.

Shabanie Mine removed goalkeeper Biggie Temera for Petros Moyo towards the end of the match, but the more failed to pay dividends.

Coach Alexio Segion said that it was a pre-conceived move to change goalkeepers for the penalties.

On the other hand, Mangwiro said that they missed good chances, but claimed that they were also complacent.

“I am happy to progress to the next stage of the tournament. It’s the same side we clobbered in a league match but today it was a different game,’’ he said. “We did not play our normal game. Their goalkeeper was in good form. We could have won the match in regulation time and I am not comfortable winning in penalties,” he said.

Segion said his side had put up a good fight.

‘’Penalties can go either way. We substituted Biggie Temera for Petros Moyo, that was a game plan, but sometimes games plans can fail. We had already planned for it, but its very unfortunate we did not win,” he said.

“We are now focusing on the league and we will just try to win our matches and see what happens in the end,” he said.

Triangle were on top of the situation, but the visitors were kept in the game by their goalkeeper Temera.

Triangle could have taken the lead in the 34th minute, but Temera produced a good save.

The best chance of the match came in the 85th minute, but Triangle star Simba Makoni headed wide with Temera seemingly beaten.
