Africa’s largest telecommunications group MTN has appointed Zimbabwe executive Ralph Mupita as its new Chief Financial Officer

The MTN Group, Africa’s largest telecommunications group has appointed Ralph Mupita as its new Chief Financial Officer and executive director for the group effective from the 3rd of April 2017.

Mupita joins the telecoms group from Old Mutual where he was the CEO of Old Mutual Emerging Markets (OMEM). According to his LinkedIn profile, The Zimbabwean-born executive has an honours degree in Engineering and an MBA both from the University of Cape Town.

His appointment is the latest top-level change at MTN. The telecoms giant appointed a new CEO, Rob Shuter, earlier this year following the departure of Sifiso Dabengwa, another Zimbabwean executive.

MTN also made other appointments that included bringing on Stephen van Coller as vice president in charge of mergers and acquisitions.
With a lot of financial services experience at senior levels within MTN (Shuter is also a former banker), it wouldn’t be surprising if the group focuses on growth through acquisition especially in emerging markets where talent like Mupita has extensive experience.
