The 12th edition of the Izmir Tourism Fair in Izmir, a metropolitan city in the western extremity of Anatolia and the third most populous city in Turkey, after Istanbul and AnkaraIzmir rolls into life on Tuesday.

There will be a unique and special celebration of Zimbabwean tourism and culture, with a specific bias towards stone sculpture in general and Shona stone masonry in particular.

Zimbabwe, a land of celebrated masons, will be marketing itself as a destination and as a culture starting Tuesday in what should be a momentous occasion in Zimbabwe’s resurgent tourism performance.

An elated Turkish Ambassador to Zimbabwe, HE Hakan Kıvanç celebrated the event which would see the signing of key agreements between Zimbabwe and Turkey as he continues on his diplomatic charm offensive to strengthen the friendship between Zimbabwe and his nation.

“Hon Prisca Mupfumira is going to attend the 12th Izmir Tourism Fair which will be held in Izmir from December 6 to 8, 2018, and inaugurate the exhibition of the Shona Culture and Sculptures on this occasion along with a delegation,” said Ambassador Kivanc.

“It is expected that the Hon Minister will meet with HE Mehmet Ersoy, Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey.

‘‘During this visit, a Memorandum of Understanding on Co-operation in Tourism between The Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Zimbabwe will be signed and bilateral relations and possible co-operation fields in Tourism and Culture between two countries will be discussed,” he added.

He believes the union between Zimbabwe and Turkey would be stronger following this trip.

“After signing the aforementioned MoU, We believe that our bilateral relations and co-operation in every aspect of Tourism and Culture fields between two countries will immediately progress,” he said.

Zimbabwe’s tourist numbers have been on a juggernaut that is seemingly unstoppable and Izmir is another great step on the road to economic prosperity using tourism as a tool.
