Amtec expands to Vic Falls

AMTEC Motors (Amtec), a local automotive dealer specialising in vehicle sales, spare parts and accessories and vehicle servicing, says it has positioned itself for future growth, buoyed by strong automotive industry prospects in the outlook.

The company, which operates Nissan, Mazda and BAIC dealerships, has opened a branch in Victoria Falls to cater for its growing customer base in the resort town previously serviced by its Bulawayo unit.

BAIC is assembled locally by sister company Willowvale Motor Industries controlled by Motec Holdings, a subsidiary of the State-owned Industrial Development Corporation.

Amtec dealer principal Matthew Chandahwa told Southern Eye in an interview yesterday that the Victoria Falls branch started trading on September 3, and would be officially launched in November this year.

“We have been servicing a lot of our Victoria Falls customers from Bulawayo, We then realised it was important for us to get close to our customers rather than having them traveling all that distance,” Chandahwa said.

“We are also seeing growth in vehicle population in the town itself. So we believe there is hope for a big player our size.”

Chandahwa said the Victoria Falls showroom could house at least six vehicles.

“We are looking at six operating bays. At the moment we have got two hoists (machines used to lift vehicles) put in place and we are looking to source some more hoists. At any given time we can be able to attend to six vehicles, but in terms of what capacity we can handle in a day, it’s a lot more because six bays are just occupied by six vehicles,” Chandahwa said.
