DYNAMOS legend Moses “Bambo” Chunga is today expected to be among the guests of honour at the inaugural Mabgwe Madzima Under-20 Invitational Soccer Tournament in Chinhoyi.
The tournament will be held at Madzima Business Centre in the Chitomborwizi farming area from 9am to 5pm.
There will be four local teams contesting in the inaugural tournament and if successful, it will be made an annual event.
The four teams — Highway, Matoranjera, Chitomborwizi and Portlett — are expected to feature in today’s event, which will be a knock-out tournament with the first prize being a full soccer kit and two soccer balls, second prize being two soccer balls and the third prize will be one soccer ball.
The event organiser, Englebert Runyararo Madzima, said that the purpose of the tournament is to motivate children to fulfil their dreams of playing soccer professionally.
“The aim of
the tournament is to help the children in our community to fulfil their dreams of playing soccer professionally by giving them opportunities to showcase their talent under a conducive environment. Those who excel will get noticed by various invited academies and some might even get scholarships to go to better schools where they will pursue their academic studies and playing football at the same time.
“We also want to keep the young ones occupied so that they do not do drugs due to idleness,” he said.
Apart from Chunga, the tournament will also be graced by other former top Zimbabwean soccer stars, including ex-Black Aces and national team defender Peter Manyara.
