Church to determine 2018 winners – Bishop Magaya

ZIMBABWE Divine Destiny Church leader and pro-democracy campaigner, Bishop Ancelimo Magaya, has declared that the church will determine the winners of next year’s general elections.

The outspoken cleric said Thursday that the church would embark on a massive voter education programme ahead of the 2018 elections.

Launching a national campaign dubbed ‘Christian Vote Campaign’, Bishop Magaya said the initiative had been endorsed by more than 50 church denominations throughout the country.

The campaign will see church leaders “educating their followers on the qualities of politicians and political parties that deserve to be voted for”.

“There is not going to be voting as usual in 2018,” said Bishop Magaya.

“The church must, of necessity, reserve the right to determine who presides over the political offices of this nation; how impeccable and credible is one’s conduct.”

The cleric said they will be vetting the profiles of individuals and their political parties, and presenting their backgrounds to the electorate. In addition, church leaders will also be naming, shaming and denouncing those undeserving of public office.

“This time around we are going to check what is it that one is known for; what is it that this party is known for and what is it that this group of people is known for.

“We will be looking at what values does one stand for, what is their past record and is there any iota of Godly fear in them.

“The paradigm has indeed changed. We demand accountability from political office holders, who, by the way, are public servants.

“Gone are the days when politicians deceive people through their teeth, promising to deliver and none of those things that they do promise come to pass.”
