Embrace industrialisation, tertiary institutions urged

Institutions of higher learning have been called to provide solutions that help eradicate poverty in line with the African Union agenda 2063 as the continent celebrates Africa Day.

Tertiary institutions have been urged to adopt the continental agenda of industrialisation through research and development.

The call was made by Zambian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Emmanuel Chenda in a speech read on his behalf by first secretary of the Zambian Embassy Mrs Zelpa Chitambo at commemorations held by Harare Polytechnic College yesterday to mark Africa Day.

Chairperson of the Harare Polytechnic College Mr Collence Chisita and head of civic education Mr Francis Chipori committed the institution to embracing ideals that enhance development in Zimbabwe and in line with the African Union vision.

The commemorations which also marked the AU’s 55th anniversary provided a platform to remember and rethink the future of Africa for the regionally diverse student body which comprises several African countries such as Equatorial Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique.
