Follet-Smith Wins Harare Open

Benjamin Follet-Smith was crowned the Harare Open golf champion after he carded an impressive three-under par at Chapman yesterday.

The former Mississippi State University student managed to beat the more than 40 professional golfers who took part in the $20 000 purse tournament.

After opening with a two-under-par 70, Follet-Smith returned with a one under 71 yesterday to take the lead from Jack Allard.

Several Zimbabwe professional golfers were part of the field and it was top amateur Allard who had taken the early lead with a 68.

He carded a two-over 74 on the final day. Allard finished second on 142 and was tied with Tonderai Masunga.

Masunga had rounds of 77 and 65. Seasoned Sunshine Tour campaigner Ryan Cairns also found himself among the contenders with a 144 to tie with leading amateur David Amm as well as Robson Chinhoi.
