Govt to find ways to reduce communication tariffs

Government says it is looking into the operations of telecommunications firms in the country with a view to find out how to make services offered accessible to the majority of Zimbabweans.

The Minister of Information, Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Sourier Services Cde Supa Mandiwanzira says there is consensus by both the telecommunications companies and the regulator, to ensure that services are affordable.

He says considerable start up costs by the operators have been cited as one of the reasons driving up the costs of products offered, at a time subscribers in neighbouring countries are enjoying lower tariffs.

Early this year, there was an outcry by subscribers over voice and data floor prices which were cited as unjustifiably high against the current drive by government to reduce the cost of doing business in the country.
