Holiday travellers cry foul over fare hikes

As Zimbabweans join the rest of the Christian world in celebrating Easter, many took Good Friday as a time to visit their families in the rural areas.

Many Zimbabweans take the Easter holidays as a time of re-uniting with their families.

However, many travellers at Harare’s biggest bus terminus Mbare Musika were stranded due to the shortage of buses to take them to their rural homes.

The travellers also complained about the steep hike in fares effected for the holiday period.

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi warned motorists who are going against the law by hiking transport fares for the holidays.

This year’s Easter holiday is followed by independence day, creating a five-day holiday period which gives travellers and those staying at home more time with their families.
