Hwabaraty engages Mhako as manager

BULAWAYO-BASED traditional and contemporary musician Hwabaraty, born Japhet Mlauzi has engaged the services of media personality and arts administrator Plot Mhako as his manager in a bid to grow his brand.

In an interview with Southern Eye Life&Style, Mhako said they were ready to work together to take the Hwabaraty brand across the borders.

“We are young, hungry and creative animals with great energy, skills, experience and drive that make our union powerful and compelling for the growth of Hwabaraty’s music and brand,” he said.

“Hwabaraty is a talented, hardworking artiste, who has an amazing crossover between contemporary and traditional music. I had been observing and following his music for a while until we started to talk on the engagement.”

Mhako said they were setting out short to a long-term vision and plan of action that would see Hwabaraty strengthening his impact on a national level, collaborations and some overseas penetration.

Hwabaraty also echoed similar sentiments.

“I believe this engagement is God’s plan because we found each other at the right time and we have common interests in the arts,” he said.

“We are hoping to reach every corner on earth, if possible, because of hard work. We are breaking this tribalism syndrome together as we want to set a good example of networking. We hope for more concerts and cultural exchange events as we strive to create bridges between many tribes and nations.”

Hwabaraty, a versatile artiste who is also into dancing, drumming, poetry, rap, and acting, horned his craft as a dancer and drummer under Alexander Mhlanga’s Amawumbo Dance ensemble where he performed on the international stage before going solo.

As an actor, he has featured in the Patrice Naiambana’s written and directed play, Gospel of Othello, which premiered at Intwasa and Harare International Festival of the Arts. He has also featured in Izolo Yizolo, a television soap and also assisted in the directing of Umzotshayo which was created by Patrick Mabhena.
