The government has called upon rural local authorities to improve service delivery so that they attract potential investors in line with the government’s theme that Zimbabwe is open for business.
Despite having been under the spotlight over allegations of corruption and poor service delivery, rural local authorities have been called upon to improve their service delivery and identify areas of potential investments to improve the lives of the rural population.
Speaking at the second 100 days round up on the ease of doing business by rural district councils, the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Cde July Moyo said there are a lot of untapped resources under rural local authorities’ jurisdiction.
The Director of Public Sector, Modernisation and Performance Management in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Mr Musavhaya Reza said there is need for coordination between stakeholders involved in the development of rural communities.
According to Team Leader of the Ease of Doing Business for Rural Local Authorities, Mrs Lucy Furamera, rural district councils managed to address a number of issues impeding their ease of doing business in their 100 days plan including streamlining processing procedures.
Rural district councils administer a large geographical portion of the country and are the ones directly responsible for enhancing the quality of livelihoods of over 70 % of the population.
