Kamandama Golf Tourney held

At least 80 amateur golfers took part in the 2018 edition of the Kamandama Golf Tournament held at Hwange Golf Course with organisers expressing satisfaction at the level of competition and the support from corporate partners which saw around $20 000 being realised from the charity event.

The annual Kamandama Golf Tournament which was held as part of events to mark the 46th commemorations of the Hwange Mine disaster drew around 80 amateur golfers from around the country while a few came from neighboring countries.

As with last year’s edition, the tournament was played under the 4 ball better ball scoring format.

Hwange Colliery Company Limited Golf Committee chairman, Ray Munangwa described the tournament as a success and hailed the high level of competition.

He commended the traditional and new partners for supporting the noble initiative.

“We are so excited at the Golf Committee for having successfully organised the 2018 Kamandama Tournament. Everything went according to script and i am happy with the high level of competition,” he said.

According to the organisers, around $20 000 was raised from the event and will be channeled towards the upkeep of the widows and their dependences.

The team has already set an ambitious target to have more foreign participants during the next edition of the annual tournament.

Over a third of the miners who perished during the 1972 Kamandama Mine disaster were citizens from neighboring countries which include Malawi, Namibia, Mozambique and Botswana.
