The long awaited Karanda bridge, which links Rushinga and Mt Darwin with Karanda Hospital in Mashonaland Central Province, is now at 64 percent completion.
Assessing the bridge construction progress, the Minister of Provincial Affairs for Mashonaland Central, Advocate Martin Dinha expressed satisfaction with the work done by the District Development Fund (DDF).
The DDF in conjunction with the Office of the President and Cabinet is constructing a 160 meter long bridge at a cost of $3 million on Ruya River.
Once the bridge is completed, it will bring an end to the woes of Rushinga and communities around the Karanda referral hospital.
Advocate Dinha said the 15km road link from Karanda Hospital to Mt Darwin – Rushinga highway should be tarred for easy access to the hospital.
The Karanda Bridge offers an alternative access shorter route compared to the current two routes which are long and cumbersome.
DDF Provincial Coordinator, Mr Chrispen Mutombo, said the bridge project will be completed by end of October if the funds are availed on time.
