Zimbabwe Rural Schools Library Trust’s musical album has made it into the world’s big 10 library marketing projects.
Titled “Libraries Without Boundaries”, the 21-track music collection was included in the world library marketing and promotion’s top 10 projects in the IFLA Press Reader International Marketing Awards 2019.
The award honours organisations that have implemented creative, results-oriented marketing projects or campaigns that promote the library and information services industry.
“Coming up in the top 10 in such a hotly-contested competition is fulfilling, humbling and inspiring
“We gave it our best with the little resources we had, and being among the top 10 in the world proves that overall, our cause is worthy and worth pursuing. Morale is high in the camp”, project sponsor Driden Kunaka.
The top three winners were University of British Columbia (Canada), Vantaa City Library (Finland), and Sunshine Coast Libraries (Australia) respectively in a competition that received a record number 116 from 30 countries.
Buoyed by the album’s good showing in the competition, ZRSLT is planning to officially launch the album in Zimbabwe.
“We are planning on taking it further than merely being announced winners and bring the sweet, inspiring and informative music to the people.
“We want the powerful message carried in the album to reach the people of Zimbabwe, and we hope there will be some take-aways” said project coordinator Wadzanai Ndlovu.
“Libraries without boundaries”is a unique innovation by the ZRSLT to inspire learning, reading and use of libraries.
Songs were contributed by musicians based in Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Zimbabwe, among them Hamilton School (New Zealand), Gift Amuli, Sandra Ndebele, Ronald Nyandoro, Pastor Charles and Olivia Charamba, Tariro neGitare, Jeys Marabini, Selmor Mtukudzi, Jesse O’brien and Grace Falls and Jah Prayzah.
