Three top gospel musicians —Minister Michael Mahendere, Worshipper “Larry” Lawrence Gunda and Tembalami Tagwirei — have been nominated in three categories at the upcoming Maranatha Global Worship Awards slated for May 12 in Kenya.
The awards are designed to acknowledge authentic biblical worship music and to honour exceptional individuals from around the globe.
Minister Mahendere received two nominations, while Tembalami and Worshipper Larry Gunda received single nominations.
Mahendere is vying for the gong in the Outstanding Prophetic Song of Excellency category with his song “Salt of The Earth” where he is competing with other 14 African musicians that include Jimmy D Psalmist (Nigeria) “Power In The Blood”, Florence Andeyi (Kenya) and Christina Shusho (Tanzania) “Relax”.
Mahendere together with Tembalami and Mkululi Bhebhe were also nominated in the Outstanding Male Minister of Excellence where they are competing with 12 other refined African artistes.
Among the competitors are Trevas Green (United States of America), Jimmy D Psalmist (Nigeria), Solly Mahlangu (South Africa) and Nathaniel Bassey (Nigeria).
Worshipper Gunda was nominated in the Outstanding Invocation or Surrender Song for his song “Taura Mweya” with other 20 artistes.
In an interview, the musicians said they were excited and looked forward to grab the awards.
“It is a great honour to get two nominations from a regional event such as this one and I thank God for that.
“I am also grateful to my spiritual father Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa who gives me inspiration and to all my fans who have always been supportive and who make this brand a success,” said Mahendere.
Worshipper Gunda said: “It is quite an honour to be nominated among some other biggest artistes in Africa and I feel so humbled to be representing my nation in this capacity”. Temabalami said: “It is such an honour and it shows how far Zimbabwean gospel music has gone”’.
Meanwhile, the “Makanaka” hit-maker dropped a new video for his song “Who Is Like You” which is enjoying rave reviews on YouTube.
The song is off his latest album “Victory Classical Worship Volume 2”.
Worshipper Gunda on another hand has also released a fresh deep worship single titled “My Hallelujah Song” which is part of his upcoming album to be released soon.
