Martial arts keep Bulawayo youths grounded

In a move aimed at keeping some youngsters away from streets and criminal activities, the sport of martial arts has been adopted by Bulawayo youths as a way of instilling discipline among themselves.

Martial arts instructor Wellington Mangena who went to China in 2012 to learn more about the game and is now teaching young people from the Phelandaba/Mpopoma area.

One of the trainees, Givemore Mangena, said martial arts has benefited him along with other young people as it has driven them away from being idle and keeps them mentally alert.

The White City youth arena has become the hub of action in different spheres of sports with the programme receiving a lot of support from the community.
