Rising Afro-fusion artiste Ashton “Mbeu” Nyahora left a lasting impression at the annual Lake July festival held at Lake Chivero over the weekend. The artiste who dropped his debut album a few weeks ago thrilled thousands of music lovers who turned up for the three-day festival on Sunday afternoon.

Mbeu had a well packaged performance which included his early hits like “Mavanga” and “Masanga” driving the crowd wild, most of whom came from his hometown, Norton, just a few kilometres from the venue.

His band, the Mhodzi Tribe, was on fire. Of note was his bass player Grammy Mtetwa who played with a huge grin all the time, losing himself to great music.

Speaking on the sideline of the event, Mbeu said he was happy with how the crowd has been receiving his music.
“I just have one album to my name by people have been showing me great love. I’m just happy that my creation is serving people well,” he said.

Mbeu has been receiving rave review and vast airplay after the release of his first studio album ‘Hatizvimirire’.
His growth widely credited to his association with Oliver Mtukudzi’s Pakare Paye has come with many stumbling blocks. Recently he was accused by his former band Tsvete of stealing songs.

Lake July is a festival that draws a great pool of artists, cutting across all genres.
This year the festival hosted artists like Killer T and Jah Signal in a celebration widely associated to peaceful elections.
Notable performances came from artists like Alexio Kawara, Terry Africa, and an amazing DJ line-up which include Star FM duo, Templeman and Garry B.
