GOSPEL musician Mathias Mhere yesterday said he was amazed by the positive responses that his new collaboration, Weumambo Nditarire, with Mambo Dhuterere, has attracted after it clocked nearly 30 000 views on YouTube in one day and has been trending in shops and kombis.
The artiste said they decided to work on the collaboration on the spur of the moment after a chance meeting with Mambo Dhuterere — as fellow gospel musician Darlington Mutseta is popularly known in music circles — during which they agreed to present a joint Christmas gift to their fans.
“We have always been like best friends and during one meeting we asked each other what we could do for our fans for Christmas. Mambo Dhuterere, however, said he would only start releasing some videos next year,” Mhere said.
“But then I thought it may be important to give our fans a Christmas bonus. So we decided to get into the studio and do the song. It came out really well.”
The Favour hitmaker said when they struck the deal, he never anticipated that the song would elicit such positive feedback from fans.
“It’s really amazing how the song has become so popular. Even in shops you hear it playing and kombis, and this is only after five days. Imagine that it clocked 30 000 views in one day on YouTube,” he said.
Mhere said it was a pleasure working with Mambo Dhuterere since both of them were gospel artistes whose main trajectory was soul winning through music.
Basking in the limelight following the release of his latest album, Dare Guru, Mambo Dhuterere recently said he would only work with gospel artistes and those whose lyrics are clean, regardless of the genre.
