Musona in injury scare

ZIMBABWE captain Knowledge Musona has suffered an injury scare after it emerged he picked up a knock that could keep him out of action for a couple of days. Team manager Wellington Mpandare yesterday said his Belgian club Lokeren have advised them of the latest developments.

Mpandare, however, said they will not panic. “We heard from the team that he got a knock on the ankle muscle but it’s too early to decide anything,’’ said Mpandare.

“I am yet to see the report but I am sure it’s not very serious because they are also going to assess him further on Friday (today) ahead of the weekend games.’’

Midfielder Marvelous Nakamba has already been ruled out of the AFCON qualifier against Congo on March 24.

The Zimbabwean striker is seeing out the remainder of the current season with Lokeren after enduring a tough introduction to life with Anderlecht.

However, his agent, Mike Makaab, told South Africa’s Soccer Laduma the player will stay in Europe.

“Look, first and foremost, Knowledge has a long-term contract with Anderlecht once his loan with Lokeren expires, and his long-term goal is to remain at a top level in Europe for as long as possible.

“We’ll obviously assess things when his loan ends, but coming back to South Africa is not even on his radar at this point in time, and to be honest it would take huge money to even consider doing so,” he told Laduma.

Musona has been the rock for the Warriors, usually producing his best in his country’s colours, and is considered to be the team’s best player since Peter Ndlovu’s retirement. He is the leading goalscorer in the Warriors’ AFCON qualifying group with four goals.
