The prestigious 30th edition of the OK Grand Challenge horserace at Borrowdale Race Course was won by Simona, a four-year old filly from the Bridget Stildoph stable, with Peggson coming second.
Master Switch was third and favourite, Kilrain came fourth.
A huge field of 15 horses took to the starting stalls with $40 000 purse money up for grabs.
The 30th edition of the race run over 1500 metres was witnessed by a crowd of over 50 000 fans who packed Borrowdale Race Course.
The winner of the race, Wimona walked home $24 000 richer, while the runner-up Peggson pocketed $8 000, with Master Switch and Kilrain getting $5 000 and $3 000 respectively.
The OK Grand Challenge promotion was also held on Saturday at the race course with 43 vehicles being won by lucky shoppers this year as the retail giant celebrated its 30th anniversary.
The winner of this year’s grand prize, a Nissan Navara vehicle was Sarah Madhimbe from Zengeza 2 in Chitungwiza.
One lucky winner, Clemence Muhle of Rusape walked away with three vehicles.
Prominent artists such as Alick Macheso, Sulumani Chimbetu and Jah Prayzah provided patrons with entertainment during the grand challenge promotion.
The OK Grand Challenge jackpot promotion is an annual shoppers’ promotion that is run by OK Zimbabwe between April and June, giving customers an opportunity to win prizes including vehicles, residential stands and cash after having purchased goods at any of the store’s branches.
