Presidential candidates to sign peace pledge

Presidential candidates for the 2018 harmonised elections are expected to take part in the signing of a commitment to peace pledge at the Harare International Conference Centre in Harare this Tuesday morning.

The event has been organised by the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission chaired by Retired Justice Selo Masole Nare following the promulgation of the electoral law Code of Conduct that was passed a few weeks ago.

The code of conduct came about as a result of all political parties coming together after the 2008 elections and formation of the multiparty forum during the GNU.

All Candidates taking part in the 2018 harmonised elections were obligated by law to sign the code of conduct and this morning they are signing a public commitment to peace where they are saying no violence, force or intimidation, no to hate speech and inducing fear, yes to freedom to campaign and canvas, yes to freedom to choose candidate and vote in secret, among other statements.

The Zanu PF candidate President Emmerson Mnangagwa is being represented by the party’s Secretary for Administration Dr Obert Mpofu.
