Zvishavane — A presiding officer stationed at Muzvondiwa polling station in Zvishavane was dismissed after voters were issued postal ballot papers.
This was confirmed by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Zvishavane District Elections Officer Regressor Dube in an interview with the media on Monday.
Dube, said the presiding officer whose name was not immediately availed, issued about 19 voters with postal ballot papers which did not have the names of the aspiring Zvishavane-Ngezi National Assembly candidates.
“After the incident was noticed, we agreed with the election agents of all political parties that they should use the correct books.
“However, all the 19 people who had voted using the postal ballot book were identified.”
Dube said they reached an agreement with the election agents that the votes cast using the postal ballot papers would not be counted.
“When they are counting they will take them out and put them in separate envelopes,” he said.
“However, we noted that the presiding officer was under pressure and we changed the presiding officer with another trained presiding officer.”
