GWERU-BASED private land developer River Valley Properties has injected $2 million towards the refurbishment of Shurugwi Town Council’s sewer pump station, the Southern Eye has established.

Shurugwi district administrator Langton Mupeta said the development would address sewer reticulation problems faced by the mining town over the years.
“We have quite a number of land developers in Shurugwi, but the gesture by River Valley Properties to provide funds for the rehabilitation of the sewer system is highly commendable,” Mupeta said last week at the handover of the refurbished sewer pump station.
“It should also be noted that River Valley has also developed land for residential houses, hence the company is immensely contributing to the development of Shurugwi.”
River Valley chief executive Smelly Dube said her company would maintain the sewer pump station for the next 12 months.
She also revealed that the Magakooshla housing stands developed by River Valley had since been connected to the rehabilitated sewer system.
“We did not only improve the capacity and efficiency of the sewer system, but also connected our Magakooshla housing stands to the sewer system,” she said.
The company also handed over 500 residential houses to beneficiaries, built under the Magakooshla housing scheme.
It also donated 100 refuse bins to the new suburb as part of efforts to maintain a clean environment and enhance waste management in the mining town.
