LONDON. — Cristiano Ronaldo, the Real Madrid star has had a Munich medical and a deal with Italian giants is done, according to Luciano Moggi. Ronaldo is the subject of an £88m (€100m) bid from Juventus, who have emerged as favourites to secure his signature.
Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have also been touted as potential destinations for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Moggi seems to think the next step for the 33-year-old Portugal international is to swap the Spanish La Liga for the Italian Serie A with Juventus.
And he has now gone further than most by claiming his old club have wrapped up a deal for Ronaldo.
“In my opinion, he has already signed and passed the medical examination with Juventus in Munich,” Moggi told Italian TV network Tele7Gold. “This is what I think after talking to important people.”
Moggi, who spent 12 years as Juventus CEO before being caught up in the Calciopoli Scandal in 2006, also recalled his own failed attempt to sign Ronaldo.
“I received an alert,” said Moggi. “I sent an observer to look at him, he was an 18-year-old boy, but he impressed me with his maturity and his choices.
“In the middle of the day I made the contract. Unfortunately, Marcelo Salas refused to sign for Sporting Lisbon because he wanted to return to River Plate.
“I offered five million more for an 18-year-old player, but it could not be done at that time.”
Ronaldo’s potential exit comes just over a month on from the Champions League final, when he admitted he would consider his Real Madrid future.
Ronaldo’s revelation was seen by many as a ploy to get Bernabeu president Florentino Perez to sit down at the negotiating table.
It was claimed the former United star wanted to be handed a pay rise so he would earn as much as Neymar and Lionel Messi.
However, it appears Perez might now have to go shopping for a new talisman to replace Ronaldo, who joined Real for £80m in 2009.
