Rugby Teams Get Kits

Hartman House and St George’s College rugby teams got a timely morale-booster ahead of their South Africa Tour when they received playing kits from a number of local companies in Harare yesterday.

Local seed producing company, Seed Co, will sponsor Hartmann House rugby which will play in the Northlands Rugby Festival in Durban.

Raylite Batteries, Zimbabwe Mining Development and Caltex will support the St George’s College side who will take part in the St Benedicts Rugby Tournament in Johannesburg.

Edmund Njazi, the Hartmann House sports director and senior team coach, said they were looking forward to a successful tour.

“I hope we are going to do well. We have been practising well and I think the experience of playing some top South African schools will be good for the players.

“The games will give us an idea of how well we will do in the coming season and we can correct some mistakes. We want to leave a mark at the tournament and rise the country’s flag high,” said Njazi.

The same sentiments were echoed by St George’s College head coach, Maxwell Madziva, whose team departs this afternoon for Johannesburg.

“We are grateful to our sponsors for the uniforms,” he said.

“We are using the tournament to see our strength ahead of the Dairibord Rugby Festival. We have a very strong side and the Under-16 team has been together for a while.

“The team went unbeaten the whole of last year and so I hope they will continue with the good form. We have a good side who will graduate to the senior team,” said Madziva.
