Visual artistes, curators and performers will be in for a cultural treat when the 2017 Bulawayo Art and Craft Fair commences later this month.

The Fair, the second of its kind will run from 21 to 23 April and is an initiative of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in partnership with Friends of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo and Alliance Francaise.

In a Facebook post by the organisers of the Fair, they made a call for participants for the fair.

Organisers announced that this year’s edition of the fair will move away from the traditional norms of an Art Fair and move towards a more contemporary and more interactive approach.

“We are transforming the traditional model of the ‘Craft Fair’ to a curated event presenting emerging artists, craft makers and designers an opportunity to benefit from this prestigious creative space at a professional level. THE FAIR reassures a solid base of direct interactions with local and international buyers in a friendly environment,” reads part of a statement released by the gallery.

This year’s edition will feature open studios, a talk from Bulawayo artiste Danisile Ncube and a children’s art workshop among other activities.

Taking place just a few days ahead of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, the Bulawayo Art and Craft Fair will present an opportunity for local artistes to potentially liaise with and hopefully build relations with international personalities
