“It’s my first time to be here in Zimbabwe and I think this is a great opportunity to share our Cuban culture with the people of Zimbabwe,” said Herrera.

“It is really great to be here representing the contemporary Cuban jazz culture. Our roots are here in Africa and it’s good to celebrate our culture with the people of Zimbabwe.”

The Cuban saxophonist and his group have performed at various international jazz festivals winning the hearts of many with their polished act.
The young jazz band will perform at the 7 Arts Theatre tomorrow.

“The visit by Michel is much more about promoting cultural ties between Zimbabwe and Cuba,” said Carmelina Ramirez Rodriguez, Cuban Ambassador to Zimbabwe.

“It’s a free one-day concert and we want people to enjoy Cuban music. Herrera is a very prominent saxophonist of international standing.”

Born in Havana on May 5, 1984, Herrera joined several groups of popular dance music between 2004 and 2007.
Since 2005 he has performed at jazz festivals in Cuba every year and performs regular presentations with his group Young Jazz in which he directs, arranges and composes his own songs.
