War vet dies in bank queue

A SIXTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD war veteran collapsed and died in a Beitbridge bank queue yesterday while waiting to make a withdrawal.

Major Moyo, of Malibeng in Beitbridge West, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Beitbridge Rural District Hospital, sources at the hospital said.

People who were with him in the queue at a building society bank said Moyo was frothing after collapsing and was rushed to hospital, which is a kilometre away.

“He just collapsed and started foaming from the mouth before going numb. We heard he passed on,” a woman who stood next to him said.

“We had been in the queue for a long time together and were almost reaching the door,” she said.

Moyo joined the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army in Zambia in the early 70s.

Hospital sources said his relatives had been informed of the incident.

Moyo has become a victim of thecash crisis that has ravaged the country, with some people having to sleep in queues as the cash shortages continue to bite.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele said he had not yet received information about the sudden death case.

Moyo’s name had, however, been entered into the hospital mortuary’s register.
