Defending champions, Zimbabwe are through to the semi-finals of the COSAFA Cup after beating Botswana 3-1 on penalties in a quarter-final clash that ended in South Africa this evening.
The match had ended 1-all in regulation time and up stepped goal-keeper, George Chigova to send the Warriors into the last four.
Chigova saved three Botswana spot kicks and Jameson Mukombwe, Abbas Amidu and Khama Billiat scored the three penalties that Zimbabwe took.
Billiat had set up Evans Rusike in the 39th minute for the match’s opening goal but Botswana grabbed a 61st minute equaliser, and the match had to be decided on penalties.
In another quarter-final match played this afternoon, Madagascar upset the hosts, South Africa 4-3 on penalties after the match had ended 0-0 in regulation time.
Zimbabwe will now take on Lesotho in the semi-final, while Zambia will clash with Madagascar.
Both of those matches will be played at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday.
