A WOMAN from Budiriro in Harare has been fined for lying to the Registrar-General’s Office about the identity of the corpse she had repatriated from South Africa on September 8.

Eunice Gufu (50) pleaded guilty to the charge of contravening section 27 (2) (a) of the Births and Deaths Registrations Act Chapter 5:02 when she appeared before Beitbridge magistrate Trevor Nyatsanza on Thursday last week.
She pleaded guilty to the charge and was ordered to pay $50 fine with an option of 30 days imprisonment.
Prosecutor Munyonga Kuvarega told the court that Gufu is employed as a maid in South Africa.
He alleged that on September 8, Gufu repatriated Shalom Madondo’s remains from South Africa into Zimbabwe and misrepresented to the RG’s office at the Beitbridge Border Post that it was Ruth Tsikira’s corpse and signed documents on the strength of that misrepresentation.
A burial order was processed at the border post but Gufu did not collect it, the court heard.
The offence was only discovered when Madondo’s relatives wanted to purchase a grave for the deceased and a different set of papers which had the actual name of the deceased were produced.
Gufu was referred to Beitbridge to rectify the issue and she was then arrested for falsifying Tsikira’s death.
