ZANU factional fights escalate

Zanu-PF factional fights in Harare have escalated to the party’s lower structures where some officials aligned to provincial chair Cde Amos Midzi are allegedly terrorising those they deem to be loyal to youth chairman Cde Godwin Gomwe.

Last week a Zanu-PF official in Epworth’s Zvido Zvevanhu district, Cde Kudakwashe Damson, had his house destroyed by some party officials who accused him of supporting Cde Gomwe.

Cde Damson reported the matter at Epworth Police Station and a docket was opened under case number RRB2212943. In an interview over the weekend, Cde Damson said he was under intense pressure from some party officials who were demanding that he pledge allegiance to Cde Midzi.

“I am being persecuted in the district and recently our chairman Cde Tichaona Muroyiwa sold my stand to a guy called Makore from Kadoma simply because I support Cde Gomwe,” he said. “On Friday Makore and our vice chairperson Cde Shepherd Dzingirai broke into my house saying that I was no longer the owner of that stand.

“In the process they took US$500 that was in the house and I had to make a report to the police.”

Cde Damson, however, said he was not happy with the way his case was being handled by the police at Epworth Police Station. He accused head of the Police Internal Security and Intelligence at Epworth Police Station, Assistant Inspector Sanyika, of taking sides in the matter. He said when he reported the matter Asst Insp Sanyika turned the tables on him and wanted to detain the complainant saying he was already on the police wanted list.

Cde Damson said Asst Insp Sanyika also sent another police team to investigate the case at his house after another team dispatched by Officer-in-Charge Inspector Nyararai had concluded the matter.

He said the team that was sent by Asst Insp Sanyika threatened people at his house and forced them to sign a false report that they had lost US$390.

“I am not happy with the way Mr Sanyika is handling my case,” he said.

“In the first place he wanted to detain me after I made my report and he even wanted me not to make the report claiming that I do not have the legal papers to claim ownership of the house in question.

“I suspect that there are some underhand dealings between Mr Sanyika and some of our party officials because I once recorded Cde Muroyiwa bragging that I cannot do anything to him because he pays money to Mr Sanyika.”

Contacted for a comment, Asst Insp Sanyika said he was not allowed to talk to the media but confirmed that Cde Damson had indeed made a report at Epworth Police Station.
