Zanu PF conference to gobble millions

THE Zanu PF national people’s conference scheduled for December 10 to 15 at Umzingwane High School in Esigodini, Matabeleland South is projected to gobble over
$1 million, with provinces expected to contribute to the costs.

A total of 50 cattle, five from each province and 50 tonnes of maize meal, five tonnes from each province, are expected to be consumed during the annual indaba.

This emerged during the Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial co-ordinating committee meeting held at the party’s provincial headquarters at Davies Hall on Monday to endorse resolutions the province will push for at the conference.

Zanu PF Bulawayo provincial secretary for administration, Elifas Mashava, said the provinces were given targets for various contributions towards the conference, which include cattle, money and maize meal.

“We are expected to contribute five cattle, $50 000 and five tonnes of maize meal from each province towards the conference,” Mashava said.

“There are elders who promised to donate cattle and we need an update on the contributions as to how much has been raised.”

Bulawayo Zanu PF co-ordinating committee’s finance administrator, Mlungisi Moyo, told party members that they had so far received pledges in cash and surpassed the maize meal target of five tonnes.

“We have so far received pledges for cash totalling to $22 000, while $15 000 cash is now at hand,” Moyo, who was a losing candidate for the Bulawayo Central in the July 30 elections, said.

“Also, our politburo members (Absolom) Sikhosana and (Joshua) Malinga pledged to give us a beast each. We also have managed to get six tonnes of maize-meal and this means we are going to the conference with six tonnes, surpassing our target of five tonnes. We hope by the time we go to the conference, we will have met all the targets.”

Sikhosana said Bulawayo province will have 306 delegates at the conference.

He said the members attending must not be there as listeners, but as contributors to the policy formulations that inform the Zanu PF government on how it should manage the nation as a ruling party.

Politburo members and central committee members will be accommodated at Holiday Inn and Rainbow Hotels in one room each, while the rest of the members will be housed at Hillside and Bulawayo Polytechnic Colleges.
