The ruling Zanu PF Secretary for Administration who is also the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Dr Obert Mpofu today (Tuesday) hosted a delegation from the Commonwealth Secretariat which is on a fact-finding mission of Zimbabwe.
The ruling Zanu PF party and government have been engaging with several observer groups seeking to participate in the harmonised elections.
Dr Mpofu told ZBC News that hosting observer delegations is part of recognition of the country’s willingness and transparency to deliver, free, fair and credible elections free of violence and intimidation.
Dr Mpofu said as Zanu PF they will be engaging in inter-party dialogue with the main opposition party formations to ensure the political space is opened up as evidenced by the political demonstrations that took place in the capital this morning.
He said Zanu PF is serious about upholding democratic values within the party and the political environment in the country.
The discussions with members of the Commonwealth Secretariat centred on the delegation wanting to gain an appreciation of the functioning democracy in Zimbabwe, the application to re-join the grouping as well as preparation for the national harmonised elections to be held on the 30th of July 2018.
