ZIFA have joined the nation in mourning national hero Oliver Mtukudzi, the iconic singer who passed away on Wednesday.
The legendary singer was accorded national hero status yesterday.
He becomes the first musician to be accorded the country’s highest honour.
“The Zimbabwe Football Association executive committee, council, and secretariat, join the rest of the nation in mourning the passing on of legendary musician and social commentator Oliver Mtukudzi who passed on (Wednesday) afternoon,’’ ZIFA president Felton Kamambo said in a statement.
‘’Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this difficult moment of untold grief.
‘’We can never begin to imagine what they are going through, but we take great solace in the fact that his music remains with us to instruct, soothe and reprimand in almost every life situation.
‘’We are saddened he is no longer here to give us more, but we celebrate the eternal legacy of nourishing music that will remind generations of his influence on the world.
‘’May his dear soul rest in eternal peace.’’
The celebrated musician died at the Avenues Clinic after a long battle with diabetes.
