Zim attends Africa Airport Expansion Summit

Zimbabwe is among the countries participating at the 5th Annual Africa Airport Expansion Summit taking place in Kigali, Rwanda with calls that the continent needs to position itself to benefit from the boom in tourism and surge in investment inflows by sprucing up airport infrastructure.

Government regulatory bodies, airport authorities, institutional investors, construction companies and consulting engineers are among the delegates attending summit in Rwanda.

Zimbabwe which has placed attention on the sprucing up of the airport infrastructure is being represented by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) with the authority’s general manager Mr David Chawota among the keynote speakers.

Among some of the issues on agenda include the need for the continent to position itself in order to benefit from the tourism boom and the renewed appetite by international investors to invest on the continent by upgrading existing aviation infrastructure.

The Zimbabwean officials are set to make use of the platform to showcase some of the ongoing airport expansion projects and the recently completed new look Victoria Falls International Airport project which was commissioned last year.

The country is set to commence the Harare International Airport expansion project this year in line with the vision to transform Zimbabwe into a regional aviation hub.
