Zim selects judokas for SA championships

The Zimbabwe Judo Association held a selection tournament at Tafara aimed at selecting athletes for the South Africa championships set for Port Elizabeth from the 1st to the 2nd of June.

After scooping two medals at last year’s judo championships, the Zimbabwe Judo Association will hope the selected judokas will compete and retain more medals at this year’s competition.

The 15 judokas were selected from the Tafara tournament.

Washington Chivamba, Tanaka Kuonze and Edson Muza will represent the country in the Under 60kg men while 60kg to 65kg category has Brian Chiminya and Tapiwa Pavari vying for the medals.

Allen Ganyi and Moses Mutekedi will compete in the 65kg to 75kg men, while the trio of Sydney Mutero, Ben Mushayi and Michael Mushonga will  compete in the Under 75kg to 89kg.

Jeanini Keyaya is the only female athlete in the 48kg to 65kg.

Meanwhile, Christine- Rose Prestorias kept the country’s flag high after scooping a bronze medal in the Cadet European Judo Cup tournament held in Portugal.
