Zimbabwe Fashion Week beckons

The much-anticipated Zimbabwe Fashion Week is taking off today at the The Sp-ce in Harare.Under the umbrella of Zimbabwe Fashion International, fashion enthusiasts are in for a treat with organisers promising a fresh look.

“Zimbabwe Fashion Week is the most significant fashion event in the country, and in recent years has become one of the most important cultural events attended by over 6 000 patrons and covered by every news outlet in the country, receiving international mention,” said the company’s communications, curator and cultural agent Makhotso Simone,

“ZFW has a loyal following within the target audience for most luxury brands, young discerning trendsetters that shape opinions and tastes amongst Zimbabwe’s elite.”

Established by former model Priscilla Chigariro-Gessen in 2009, the platform has created an opportunity for local and regional designers to showcase their work and equally help to rekindle what was once a thriving textile and fashion industry.

The ZFW will include workshops for young designerswho will be mentored by local and international fashion gurus.

A mixture of international and local designers will take turns showcasing their latest work from tomorrow through Saturday.

From New York Evelyn Lambert is bringing a classic style with innovative design for women on the go who are looking for quality clothing for endurance with an aim to create wearable beautiful timeless clothes mainly focusing on the comfort and durability.

Celebrity fashion stylist and designer, New York-based Mickey Freeman who has many facets to his sartorial expertise, will present his kilt line that left a mark on the ramps of Bahamas and Bermuda Fashion Week.

Local and labels Coco Couture by Tapfuma Munengwa, Gutu Tich, Vongai Murambiwa, Gloria Nyajeka, Ankara By Ane, Nehanda & Co Apparel, Zanorashe, Moi Amara, Maison Du Style, House Of Hohwa, Le Coutur, Chiedza Kambasha Collection, Leve Maison Du Rouge, Magreth Silas and Valeria Paradzai will showcase.

Maintaining the week’s vibe on the entertainment decks will be DJ Konrad Ritter from Berlin.

He is a regular jockey at the world’s top nightlife spots where he is popular for his excellent track selection and a unique blend of deep house and Detroit house

Fashion lovers are in for a slaying treat as they prepare to restock their closets with the best raw couture for spring and summer.
