Zimbabwean born producer Brian Soko (23) (@beatsbysoko) has made history as not only the first Zimbabwean but also the youngest African producer/composer to be nominated and win in multiple contemporary music categories at both the BMI and Grammy Awards. Soko is who co-founder of Anashe Media Group won two awards at the prestigious 57th Annual Grammy Awards held on Sunday February 8th 2015 in Los Angeles for his work on Beyoncé double platinum record ‘Drunk In Love’ ft JayZ. Soko along with his production partners Rasool Diaz (@RasoolDiaz) and Andre Proctor (@Drem00n) collectively known as “The Order” (@ItsTheOrder), are now credited with two Grammys, Best R&B Song ‘Drunk In Love’ and Best R&B Performance ‘Drunk In Love’.
Soko and ‘The Order’ were nominated in a total of five categories including Best Rap Album for work on Wiz Khalifa’s ‘Blacc Hollywood’ producing the single ‘True Colors’ ft Nicki Minaj; Best Contemporary Album for Beyoncé and Album Of The Year also for Beyoncé producing ‘Drunk In Love’ and ‘Jealous’. In the Grammy acceptance speech on behalf of ‘The Order’ Soko thanked their management, their publishing label Warner Chappell and his partners Rasool Diaz, Andre Proctor and Kailen Martin who passed away a year earlier.
In relating the significance of his achievements as a Zimbabwean and an African, Soko commented “I just hope the people of Zimbabwe are proud of me for this achievement and that this sends a message to young African creative professionals around the world, that anything is possible if you work hard doing what you love.”
Soko and ‘The Order’ landed three credits on Nicki Minaj’s recently released ‘Pink Print’ album as well as producing on fellow Zimbabwean Tinashe’s ‘Aquarius’ album. Soko now has his ambitions firmly set on establishing a major footprint within Africa in the form of Anashe Media Group his Africa focused production platform and already this year has a nomination at the upcoming South Africa METRO FM Awards for ‘Song of the Year’ for Cassper Nyovest record breaking hit ‘Phumakim’ and a nomination for Album of the Year’ on K.O ‘Skhanda Republic’ for production work on the single ‘Mission Statement’.
