Zimbabweans and Triviality: How did we sink so low?
By Leonardo Makuya The disgusting and unprecedented trending of a joking culture in Zimbabwe or Africa at large has revealed a deep sited entrenched ‘cancer’ that is somehow responsible for our impoverishment as black people which is THE LOVE FOR TRIVIALITY which in simple terms translates to majoring the minor. Our country and continent is so averse to thinking and this helps to explain why we have achieved so little in terms of the socio-economic, scientific, technological inventions, material development and in all other indices of human progress or development.
God created us all as thinking and creative beings which is a gift given to all races despite skin colour. Therefore, other races have channelled that creative thinking capacity in development of their welfare and the world at large through inventions, scientific and technological developments as well as furthering medical knowledge and research. But with Africans this is not the case they are not willing to put their brains to productive work and seek solutions to their problems. A Zimbabwean (African) would rather channel and waste that creative ability in making funny of anything. Instead of rationally and objectively looking into our predicaments.
First we fell into the Masvingo memes madness and it is disheartening that this love for triviality and mediocrity is gaining traction by the day and is spreading its roots within our society. We have reduced ourselves into a social media controlled generation which is unnecessarily pre-occupied with following the online controlled dramas of attention seeking goons when other races are investing in furthering medical knowledge, technical advancement n scientific inventions. My question then is that is it a reflection that we lack focus and a clearer vision either as individuals or as a country?
That we are easily swayed by anything, allowing our thinking to be guided by news headlines and day to day events. Our refusal to use our brains and think out solutions to the problems we are facing is the major factor why we are and remain poor, miserable and pitiable. Until this changes l bet Jesus Christ will come back the second time and we will be trailing in development and other spheres when compared to other races.
Whilst others may claim that humor is our only way of letting lose our bottled frustration and pain of disappointment from broken dreams. I have a question for them: Why is that blacks are too quick and willing to resign themselves to any situation in which they find themselves in? instead of seeking sustainable solutions! This kindergarten and primitive behavior will not take our country and continent forward. We need to utilize our creative faculty in productive thinking and create a legacy for coming generations.
We need ideas that will resurrect ailing African economies not jokes. This has to stop. I do not intend to be mean but l have penned this article out of patriotic anger and disappointment on how low we are now becoming. Hate me now and thank me later.
