Zimbabwe’s Ruling Party Endorses Mnangagwa Dismissal: Spokesman

(Bloomberg) — 

Zimbabwe’s ruling party has expelled former vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa from within its ranks, an official said.

  • “The Politburo has unanimously expelled former Vice president and Second Secretary of ZANU-PF Comrade ED (Emmerson Dambudzo)Mnangagwa a member of the party,” Simon Kaya Moyo, ZANU-PF spokesman told reporters after the party’s politburo meeting in the capital, Harare
  • “All the ten provinces and the women’s league as well as the youth league endorsed the expulsion of former vice president ComradeMnangagwa as vice president of the Republic of Zimbabwe by his Excellency Comrade Robert Mugabe”
  • Moyo said nine provinces have identified a number of party leader in their provinces who had been involved “in Lacoste factionalism in violation of party rules and the Politburo directed that such cases should be subjected to the National Disciplinary Committee for appropriate action and recommendation”
  • Moyo said the elevation of First Lady Grace Mugabe to the position wasn’t discussed since it “wasn’t on the agenda”
  • Moyo said the party had not discussed , but had taken “note” ofMnangagwa’s statement after he fled to South Africa
