The Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front, the country’s ruling party, has expelled Emmerson Mnangagwa two days after he was fired by President Robert Mugabe as one of his two deputies.

The party endorsed Mugabe’s decision and said a number of party officials associated with Mnangagwa will be subjected to disciplinary proceedings, Simon Khaya Moyo, spokesman for the party, told reporters in the capital, Harare, on Wednesday.

Mnangagwa said in a statement that he had fled the country after receiving death threats.
